WHAT?

Four Thousand Miles is creating a 100 - hot list of all the amazing British Asian women in the creative industry who are going against the grain of cultural norms and killing it in their creative areas. There is still an expectation channelled by unlearnt archaic attitudes to be the house maid / baby maker and If you're not a doctor or a lawyer, you're looked at as the one who's not that 'academic', politely meaning, 'don't worry, you're just a bit stupid!’

There are some BAD ASS Asian females out there who are creatively doing some amazing things for the world and it's about time we made a (Bhangra) song and dance about it!

With only 11% of the BAME group working in the creative sectors, I’m discovering the missing 89%

WHY?

We have done enough talking on diversity and the lack of representation of South Asians in the Media / creatives spaces, this is the place where we show up and DO IT!

However, for us to progress and break free from cultural ‘norms’, education starts at home between the parents of the Millennial’s and Generation Z and the wider communities.

The pressures that are put upon South Asian women and the expectations of where they are placed in the family home can often feel limiting. A ring on our finger isn’t our sole accomplishment and the person who puts a ring on our finger shouldn’t be the one that navigates your journey.

This is a celebration of women who are taking control and being the captain of their own ship.

HOW?

By using this platform, we can champion women of South Asian Heritage, creating a space for their voices to be heard, giving them more visibility in their arenas.

How? It all starts with YOU

Get the facts! Learn more, read more and be willing to change the lens. Champion, support and seek knowledge from one another. Empower each other so the next generation of South Asian females can level up.

THE SPACE will be used to share stories and highlight the incredible talents of British-Asian women.
